A Small Step For.... Or... How Much Effort?
I see postings that people leave here on Thoughts are giving up on goals they have set for themselves. This is a real shame, but maybe these thoughts will bring them back to trying again. I am not a proffesional on this subject, but I have had a lot of practice.
First I set my overall goal. I wil talk about one I reached. The goal: Drive Semi with my wife. I really wanted to be together and share my life with her. I had some obstacles in my way. She had a job she loved. Many companies won't take someone with out at least two years experience. I wrote my goal down and when home talked with my wife. I took a job with a small outfit who would take her on as my co-driver. I then talked her into going to a truck driving school. We did finally get to drive together, but I was diagnosed with Diabetes which put an end to my ability to drive. I had failed because of illness, or had I?
What was my goal? I had written it as Driving Semi Together, but why that goal when my real goal was to work with my wife so we could be together. We worked at two different jobs for a year, until a position opened up where we could work together again. We Manage an 8 building apartment complex together and love it.
Some advice that will help you reach your goals.
1. Set Your Goal
2. Give lots of thought to your goal and what steps it will take to get there.
3. Picture the end, what will it be like to reach your goal.
4. Have a plan, set dates to meet in your progress.
5. Break your goal into smaller steps and celebrate everytime you reach that intermediate goal.
6. Keep moving forward with your goal in mind.
As you work toward your goal, realize that life happens and you may have to rethink what your real goal is and change it like we did.
Setting goals will lead you to success and setting more goals in the future. Never, ever give up. I wish you the best!

Some times the goals we set are unrealistic.. We know oursleves better than anyone else.. We need to be patient with ourselves.. Knowing we will slip up once in awhile..True success keeps starting and never giving up.

Certainly some goals are not realistic, but what can we do to get as close to our dream as possible. We might not be driving truck together, but we are working together. Close enough. Recovering from my brain injury was always about adjusting my goals, but never giving up on making some kind of progress. They told my wife that what I didn’t accomplish in the first year would never happen. We showed them they were wrong. I say WE because with out my wife’s encouragement, I would never have come so far.

I have a friend who had 2 strokes. she is 70.. First one she seemed to bounce back was in rehab when the second one hit. She was in the hospital for 3 months. She is back to riding her horse and probably working at 75% with in 6 months of release from the hospital..

Thank you for your comment. I have had many goals in my life, some bigger than others. Some I achieved, some had to be changed a little, and some will be achieved the day I surrender to this world. All taught me to always move forward toward my goals.

Goals have to be simply, clearly stated, well thought out and thoroughly understood.
